When Applying for Credit/Credit Cards.

If you currently don’t have credit or have not applied for a credit card go ahead and apply for some credit.  Before you go out and apply and build your credit rating. You need to know that things can go very, very wrong if you take a misstep with your credit and debt. You may also consider the advantages that you definitely do want in your life; A home, a nice car, vacations and education. When applying for credit we need to consider the following:

  • Be consistent with the name you use.
  • Take advantage of pre-approved credit for department stores, gasoline and bank cards.
  • Be honest-Lenders will help with out of control problems-job loss, illness
  • Don’t lie on your credit application.
  • Apply for credit when you are most likely to get it-working or live in same residence for a year.
  • Apply for credit from creditors with whom you’ve done business.
  • Don’t get caught up in applying for credit card gimmicks.
  • Scrutinize any preapproval solicitations for nonbank cards.
  • Send your creditors a change of address when you move.
  • If you need an increase in your credit limit, ask for it.
